"Important Pair Of Portraits Of Men Signed Prinzhofer"
Pair of large portraits representing Moritz Ritter Von Franck (1814-1895) and his father Josef Johann Ritter Von Franck signed Prinzhofer for August Prinzhifer (1817-1885) and dated 1867 and 1870. August Prinzhofer is an artist of Austrian origin who was first one of the proliferators of photolithography in Vienna from 1830 to 1860, more than 500 works are listed. With the advent of photography he devoted himself exclusively to painting from the beginning of the 1860s when he settled in Graz, mainly producing portraits. Josef Johann Ritter Von Franck was a wealthy Austrian landowner whose son Mortitz Ritter Von Franck, after studying philosophy, joined the army and then politics as a parliamentarian. For many years he ran the Graz mutual bank. A city of which he became the first elected mayor, his commitment to his city was unprecedented. He set about modernizing it by creating the city park, the numbering of houses, the public hospital, a community savings bank, and improving health conditions, particularly those of the poorest. He worked to raise the standard of living of the working poor, earning him the nickname "father of the workers". This enlightened philanthropist now has his marble statue by the sculptor Edmund Hellmer (1850-1935) in the Graz park that he created. These portraits have their original wooden and gilded stucco frame.
