Jambupati Buddha, Burma.
The Buddha depicted in the manifestation of Jambupati. Seated in dhyanasana on a multi-level throne, dressed in his royal attire and adorned with jewels. His right hand in bhumisparsa mudra, his face with a serene expression is covered by a very elaborate crown and flanked by two flamboyant panels. Covered in black lacquer and gilding. Good condition: Only the base shows alterations due to the weather. Burma (Myanmar), Shan State, late 18th / early 19th century. Provenance: Estate of the merchant and collector Claude de Marteau.
