A rare and attractive 19th century German Berlin Iron (Berliner Eisen) decorative art figurative cast iron plate. The famous Berlin Irons are highly sought after and collectible as they are a very special piece of history. The Prussian royal family invited all citizens to contribute their gold and silver to financing the uprising against Napoleon during the War of Liberation. In exchange, people received iron jewelry and art objects. This allowed all kinds of art objects to be made in Iron is popular because of its symbolic relationship with a sense of patriotism and loyalty. Berlin iron was lacquered black, obtained by treating the castings with flax cake.
