Beringer Polyhedral Sundial With Compass, 18th Century
Artist: Beringer
A polyhedral sundial attributed to Beringer, dating from the late 18th century. The wooden cube is covered with printed, colored paper featuring several hour dials with Roman numerals, each equipped with its own brass gnomon. The sides are decorated with floral motifs, landscapes, and allegorical figures. The rotatable cube rests on a turned wooden support attached to a square base with small feet, which incorporates a compass for correctly positioning the instrument. The piece exhibits an antique patina, wear, missing sections, and lifting of the paper, as well as signs of use consistent with its age.
