Signed J[ules] CARPENTIER - Paris, Higher School of Electricity - Measurements, c. 1880-1900, bronze, steel on mahogany base, spool of electric wire. Motor to generate direct current manufactured by the engineer-builder Jules Carpentier (1851-1921). Successor to Rhuhmkorff, in 1878, he built precision instruments and electrical measuring devices at 20 rue Delambre in Paris, intended for scientific experiments and industrial uses. Model bearing number 2636 for the Ecole Supérieure d'Electricite, a French engineering school founded in 1894, then located in Malakoff in Hauts de Seine. This type of model was built in scale for schools and was used to demonstrate the transport of electrical energy; they operated with generator dynamos.
