"Baptism At The Jordan - 18th Century"
A group in polychromed wood and finely carved in the round, the representation of which is uncommon.
John, perched on a rock on the banks of the Jordan, baptizes his beloved cousin, Jesus.
“Now when all the people had received baptism, and Jesus who had been baptized was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove, and from heaven there came a voice: “You are my beloved Son: in you I am well pleased.” Luke 3-22
A work from southern Germany from the 18th century.
Good condition – some slight losses and small restoration
Dimensions: 20 cm long by 29 cm
