"Portrait Of A Pianist Around 1850."
Rare portrait of a concert performer around 1860 in a crinoline dress in front of a grand piano. The painting offers a view of the sunny countryside through the window. The woman is about to interpret a work whose title seems and "Ob sie wocht mein Gedenks" it is difficult to understand, perhaps an abbreviation of the title, the painter not having the space. Curiously, a search led me to a song by Robert Schumann, a verse of which was similar. Clara Schumann, concert artist, his wife, then appears to me as a possible lead. Youth has passed, she is a widow, but has kept a face of character. The hairstyle is identical, curiously revealing the ears (probably practical for playing without having your hair in your eyes), with the earrings, a look that it has retained even in old age photos (the engraving that I propose as illustration is from an older period). Without documents we cannot say, but the hypothesis is attractive. The type of piano is for a connoisseur, with certainty a Viennese grand piano, around 1840, one could recognize the maker with a little practice. The frame of the painting is not French, rather German. Regardless, the scene is full of charm, and it is rare to find a representation of a female musician from the Romantic era. The board has been cleaned. He's in perfect condition.
