Coffee Table By R. Guillerme, J. Chambron And B. Danikowski, France, Circa 1955

Artist: R. Guillerme, J. Chambron Et B. Danikowski
Beautiful L-shaped waxed oak coffee table, resting on three legs connected by a spacer and with a top decorated with blue and white ceramic tiles by B. Danikowski, abstractly representing flowers and faces.

In post-war France, Guillerme and Chambron created beautiful, simple and modern furniture without ostentation. They seek to combine the aesthetic and functional side of furniture, a work of art that can be used every day.

Biography :
Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) and Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) met for the first time in 1940 in a stalag in East Prussia. As a graduate of the Boulle school in 1934, Robert Guillerme puts his talent at the service of the Rogier workshops, in Lille region. Jacques Chambron, a graduate of the School of Applied Arts in Reims, has his own painter-decorator workshop in Paris. In 1948, Chambron and his family left the capital to settle in Lille. The two men then crossed paths with Emile Darioseq, owner of a cabinetmaking workshop looking for new outlets: Votre Maison was born a year later, in 1949.
Guillerme designs the furniture, Chambron plays the sales role by welcoming and advising customers, and the Darioseq workshops take care of the manufacturing. Together, they define a new concept of furnishing. Sideboards, tables, and chairs are inexpensive, sturdy and authentic. Worked backs, waxed wood and thick cushions are the reputation of their armchairs and sofas. Helped by ceramist Boleslaw Danikowski (1928-1979), they mixed wood and earthenware tiles: a real success. In the 1970s, Hervé Chambron, Jacques' son, also a graduate of the Boulle school, joined Vos Maison and created his own creations when his elders retired in 1983. The company was liquidated in 2008.
