Edgard BRANDT"PARIS", Caravelle, symbol of the city of Paris, in gilded bronze.
A unique piece offered to his friend, the architect Louis-Henri FLAVIER, in gratitude for the renovation of the Paris City Hall. A radiator cover can still be admired at the 13th arrondissement town hall (see photo), a model of which was exhibited at the 1925 Salon.
This is an exceptional piece of finely-tuned, complex workmanship that can be completely dismantled. The sails, made from a single piece of bronze, are heat-treated and hammered.

Edgard BRANDT (1880-1960)
After graduating from the Ecole Nationale Professionnelle in Vierzon, in 1902 he set up "Les Etablissements Brandt" in Paris, known for its household appliances, with a second business dedicated to wrought iron. In 1921, he went into partnership with his colleague and friend, the architect Louis-Henri Favier, who associated him with his designs. His participation in the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris in 1925 brought him immediate success. That same year, he opened his own gallery on Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris, where he exhibited his creations in ironwork, furniture, decorative objects, sculptures and lighting. The Galerie Edgard Brandt became the first decorative art gallery in Paris. He also worked with the Daum and Lalique factories and with the Brouseval foundry for cast-iron radiators.
He received numerous public and private commissions, including the flame burner at the Arc de Triomphe, the fireplace in the Salon at the Gare de l'Est in Paris, and the ironwork and metal structures in the Salle des Pas Perdus at the Gare Saint Lazare. etc...
