Rare and beautiful set composed of four medallion armchairs with flat backs called ''à la reine'', in walnut wood finely carved with ribboned knots at the top of the backs as well as on the front crosspieces of the seats.
On the trapezoidal plane, the belt receives deeply hollowed moldings.
These seats rest on four legs with rough grooves, a decoration found on the armrest consoles.
These four seats are the work of the Lyon cabinetmaker François Lapierre, who received his Master's degree in 1784.
Two armchairs bear under the crosspiece of their seat, its stamp ''F.LAPIERREALYON'' with the letter O of Lyon recognizable by its smaller size than the other letters.
After working as a journeyman for a Lyon carpenter, Nicolas Parmantier, François Lapierre (1753 – 1823) opened his own workshop, also in Lyon, rue Tramassac. He produced purely Louis XVI seats which he marked F.LAPIERREALYON. Robust and well proportioned, its models, soberly molded, feature connecting dice devoid of ornament or decorated with a diamond point in a circle instead of the traditional rosette.
Our armchairs are in perfect condition and are covered in very beautiful silk (note, however, one slightly stained armchair – see photo)
