Rare cabinet in marquetry of different types of wood, opening with two leaves. On the front, on each of the two doors there is a knight in armor and his mount, on the sides of the cabinet, the marquetry represents birds on a branch. Open, the cabinet reveals a beautiful Renaissance architectural decor with columns, niches, pediments, diamond-cut base, and numerous drawers of different sizes. The interior of the doors also uses this architectural decor. The central part opens onto a removable marquetry interior revealing numerous secret drawers. The upper part of the cabinet, forming a trunk lid, is curved and opens in two parts. The sides are lined with wrought iron carrying handles. Locks and keys work. Mounted on a stylish turned wooden base (19th century). These cabinets, considered luxury objects, were used to transport documents or precious objects when the nobility was traveling. From the second half of the 16th century, marquetry prospered in the Ausburg region thanks to the availability of numerous native woods and the know-how of cabinetmakers.
