Ethiopian Scroll XIX With Motifs Of St Michael And Cross flag

Object description :

"Ethiopian Scroll XIX With Motifs Of St Michael And Cross"
Protective scroll Ethiopia, XIX consisting of two sewn scrolls written with writing. The scroll of parchment, notably called Ketab, varies considerably in size: if it is permanent protection that the person is looking for, it is better that the Ketab be small and hidden in a talisman, otherwise it is possible to hang it at home . It can be composed of names to be protected, prayers, drawings or more substantial text, it is only necessary that this scroll be rolled up in order to ward off demons and other malicious spirits responsible for illnesses, the evil eye or death. . It is then inserted into the talisman, which is often a leather, pewter or metal case: because these are the ones that best resist time. This one is dedicated to St Michael and must have belonged to a child because it measures only 106 cm. For centuries, Ethiopians have used, for therapeutic purposes, strips of parchment that they carry with them, hidden in appropriate cases, or in homes, attached to the wall facing the bed of the person who fears being sick. The origin of tradition is not defined correctly in Muggle history books, but it is in certain wizarding texts: all this goes back to the time of the 1st Emperor of Ethiopia, Prince Haile Selassie I who was the prince of the oldest royal lineage in the kingdom. He was considered by most of his subjects to be the "legitimate ruler of the Earth", so he was constantly afraid of being struck down by illness or by what would later be called "a coup d'état". In a fear that became almost absurd, he called on exorcists, däbtäras (people who have received religious training and are ordained by the Church) or even witches. The first magic scrolls and the first talismans of Ethiopia came to life with them: under their protective spells for the talismans and under the prayers of the prince for the scrolls.
