On the terrace, the signature of Charles Valton, 19th century - circa 1900 Charles Valton (1851 - 1918) is a French sculptor known for his works in the animal style. This 19th century movement which presents animals with realistic anatomy in full action. Born in Pau in 1851, Valton grew up in Paris and spent most of his time in the botanical garden. He studied with two artist directors of the Parisian zoological garden. Valton's work was regularly exhibited at the Paris Salons between 1868 and 1914 and died in 1918 in Paris
