"Portrait Of A Man Around 1632. Jacob Adriaensz Backer And Workshop."
17th century period Oil on oak panel Presented in a very beautiful 17th century period frame in carved and gilded wood (original) decorated with fruits and foliage. Total dimensions: 54 x 42.5 cm. The panel alone: 42 x 31 cm Our research made it possible to find the prototype painting painted around 1632 by the Dutch painter Jacob Adriaensz Backer (1608-1651) from which our portrait derives. This handsome man with a serious and powerful countenance is painted in a tight frame. The background is brushed with a nuanced brown. He wears a black suit lit by a short white collar which highlights a beautiful mid-length beard. Jacob Adriaensz Backer (1608-1651) was a painter and draftsman from the Golden Age of the United Provinces. He is above all the author of portraits and paintings on biblical, mythological or literary subjects. Gifted with great speed of execution - he produced some 140 paintings in the space of twenty years - he was no less skilled in particular in the rendering of folds and precious fabrics, as well as in the representation of the human body — his studies of the hand and foot and his drawings of male and female nudes testify to his mastery in this field. Very famous to this day in Amsterdam, a beautiful exhibition was dedicated to him in 2008 in Rembrandt's house. There is another version of our portrait on sale in New York, Christie's, June 17, 2004. Related work: Jacob Adriaensz Backer. Portrait of a man.
