He was a student of his father, then of Jean-Guillaume Moitte at the École des beaux-arts in Paris. He obtained the first Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving and fine stone in 1809. He was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts at the Institut de France in 1845, and was promoted to officer of the Legion of Honor. Beautiful golden bronze plate
