History of Roger Muhl 1929 - 2008 Roger Mühl is a post-war and contemporary French painter, born in 1929. Originally from Geudertheim in Bas-Rhin, is best known for his landscape paintings of the south of France. He is known for his landscape paintings of the south of France. Roger Mühl entered the National School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg from where he graduated in 1948 to go to the Territoire de Belfort. He moved to Montreux-Château in 1954 and had his first Parisian exhibition at the Galerie de Paris in 1960. The same year, he won the Prestige des Arts in 1960. Painter of light and master of impastos which he used to creating perspective, after his Decorative Arts diploma in Strasbourg where, at 18, he was the youngest student in the painting section. He quickly exhibited in Paris and had an international career. His international career began and he exhibited in Geneva, London, Milan, Dallas, Cologne, Stuttgart, Tokyo, Kyoto, Belfort and New York (1961). His favorite studio and residence was at the old Post Office in Mougins, on the French Riviera. In the tradition of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne, Muhl found his inspiration in the iconic and atmospheric light of the south of France. In 1965, he moved to Mougins, where he lived until the end of his life. There he painted the region's rolling hills, seaside villages and gardens in cool, neutral hues, punctuated with colors like aqua, olive and gold, which capture the characteristic light of the Mediterranean coast.
