Seated Kannon, Bronze, Japan, Edo/meiji Period, 19th Century.
Bronze sculpture covered with multi-colored paint. It represents the goddess Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara) seated. The goddess sits on a rock, dressed in long robes, with a characteristic high cap on her head, a necklace and a scroll, probably a Buddhist sutra in her hands. The Japanese artist has gracefully depicted Kannon's subtle, serene expression, elegant pose, and long cascading robes.
