"atala" Clock In Gilded And Patinated Bronze From The Empire- Restoration - Charles X Period
Artist: Duval à Paris
Very rare chiseled, gilded and patinated bronze pendulum representing a scene from the novel by François René de Chateaubriand "Atala or the loves of two savages in the desert" published on April 2, 1801. Atala, young Indian daughter of a tribal chief, delivers the Indian Natchez Chactas before his execution. The enameled dial signed "Duval in Paris" is inserted into the pyre against which a spear and a rifle are leaning. The base, resting on four spinning top legs, is decorated with a bas relief representing the funeral of Atala. An identical model is in the Duesberg museum in Mons, Belgium. This clock, in perfect presentation and working condition, is worthy of a museum!
