Louis XVI Style Sauteuse Commode In Mahogany Veneer 19th Century flag

Object description :

"Louis XVI Style Sauteuse Commode In Mahogany Veneer 19th Century"
This pretty little chest of drawers is made of mahogany and mahogany veneer. It offers two rows of drawers on the front, each equipped with two ring handles. The angles of the front uprights with a slight projection and largely cut down form a flat surface, resting on square conical feet with bronze shoes. Its facade is straight and the width also offers straight shapes. Its top is not made of marble but of mahogany and mahogany veneer with marquetry fillet decoration. It will delight with its size and finesse, because this chest of drawers fits perfectly into all rooms, from the entrance to the office as well as in a hallway, living room or bedroom. The sauteuse chest of drawers or Cressent appeared under the regency of Philippe d'Orléans around 1720. It was invented by the cabinetmaker Charles CRESSENT. Wishing to stand out from the heavy and massive Louis XIV style, he created a tapered and graceful, almost airy shape. It must have only two drawers or two rows of drawers. The body must be raised on two legs, first curved then straight at the end of the century, it becomes widespread in the Louis XV style. This important evolution in the history of styles foreshadows the advent of light and rounded furniture in the Louis XV style. It only has two drawers. The body is raised on half-height feet, half of the height of the furniture having to be taken up by the body, the other half by the feet. Thus giving the impression that the piece of furniture has legs allowing it to jump like a frog.
