Max Dearly was undoubtedly one of the most famous and talented comic actors of the Belle Epoque and the Roaring Twenties. He created a very personal style of dizzying deadpan dandy. His career, which began in a modest establishment, brought him to the biggest Parisian and European stages, ending brilliantly with around twenty real talking cinema films. We find him in films by Jean Renoir, René Clair, Robert Siodmak, Christian Jacque and Sacha Guitry. Acclaimed by the critics, his partners will be all the most important divas in show business: Eve Lavallière, Réjane, Yvette Gilbert, Cléo de Mérode, Gaby Deslys, Mistinguett, Damia… This perfectionist, horse riding lover, will impose himself with the “Style English” at the café concert, and with the Valse Chaloupée at the Music Hall. Applauded, admired and imitated. He will also often be drawn and caricatured by the artists of his time. He remains known for having initiated the artists' union gala in 1923.
