“Rare apothecary or alchemist’s mortar”: red marble not identified due to the patina, from the Renaissance period (16th century), 15.4 x 11 cm. Without pestle. Equipped with a large base for stability and a cylindrical grip decorated with two projecting lips reminiscent of the rims of primitive bombards, the small-sized receptacle corresponds to the use. Numerous scratches or even superficial gaps perhaps corresponding to the disappearance of certain components of the marble. Deep patina with encrusted drips testifying to long use.
