Alfred Lugrin(1858 – 1920)Born September 1, 1858, in Villars-Bozon (municipality of L'Isle), son of François Jules, a farmer. He attended primary school in Villars-Bozon until 1872, then completed a self-taught apprenticeship as a precision mechanic.He worked at Le Coultre & Cie from 1879.In 1884, he became an independent manufacturer (assembling chronographs onto movements in the blank stage).From 1900, he manufactured complete watches. In 1918, the company name became Lémania Lugrin SA in L'Orient, with a branch in La Chaux-de-Fonds. He was one of the founders, and later the president, of the watchmaking school in Le Chenit.In addition to chronographs, the manufacture also produced complicated watches, perpetual calendars, minute repeaters, tourbillons, ultra-thin calibers, and mechanical timers for sports and industry. In 1920, stricken by illness, he handed over the management to his son-in-law, Marius Meylan.
