Franck Cinot (1851-1890) The conscript (circa 1870) Oil on wood, signed lower left 41x27cm (45x31cm framed) Franck Cinot was born in Saint Martin les Voulangis on June 24, 1851. He died in Crécy en Brie on the 18th February 1890 where he rests in the family vault. Landscaper, he was one of the major painters of the Morin valley. He learned to paint from Alexandre René VÉRON (1826-1897), Alexandre BOUCHÉ (1838-1911) from the Luzancy group, and Amédée SERVIN (1829-1884). Franck Cinot comes from a family of notable Briards. His grandfather was deputy mayor of Crécy (1940-1844), then mayor (1845-1949). his father, Amynthe Cinot (1822-1898) was a sculptor and designer. He had exhibited in 1863. He was also a member of the archeology society of Seine et Marne, a renowned collector and numismatist. Franck Cinot's two grandfathers: Charles François Cinot, owner, and François Sylvain Simon, owner, are both knights of the Legion of Honor. A Cinot also owned the Montgeoffroy farm in Maisoncelles en Brie in 1829. Frank Cinot debuted at the 1874 salon with the painting called “sin of envy”. Until 1889 he exhibited landscapes, genre paintings, military subjects and seascapes, most of which were favorably appreciated by critics. He died in Crécy en Brie in his thirty-ninth year at the height of his talent. His wife Jeanne Alexandrine Emilia Barbeau d'Hauteclerc survives him. Although he died at a young age, he had nevertheless already acquired a certain notoriety as well as recognition by his peers during his lifetime so that "the chronicle of the arts and curiosity" March 8, 1890 and "the almanac of Seine-et-Marne » 1891 signals his death. We also find a notice about him in the “historical notice on Voulangis” by Th. Lhuillier, Meaux 1931. He is part of the circle of painters of the Vallée du Morin of which Amédée Servin was the initiator. These painters mainly frequented Voulangis, La Chapelle sur Crecy, Crecy en Brie and Villiers sur Morin as well as the small surrounding hamlets.
