Small nude with green patina (wear). bronze circa 1970 - Signature of Yoshiro Saito. Yoshiro Saito (also known as Soseki). (1911 - 2000 hokkaido) Graduated from Hokkaido Junior High School. From 1937 he studied under the direction of Sogan Saito at the Tokyo Institute of Sculpture. In 1940, was selected for the first time at the 13th annual exhibition of the institute, and the same year, his work "Woman with vase" was awarded a prize. Research prize at the 16th exhibition in 1943, special Nitten selection in 1949, and 1952. His pre-war works have a very pronounced Art Deco touch, in fact his training is characteristic of this period: a strong influence of European and Greco-Roman sculpture. (a reading note on the subject of this influence in Japan will be attached). He has frequently been a judge of Nitten since 1961, became a member of Nitten in 1962, then a Nitten advisor from 1968. In 1975, he received the Dark Blue Ribbon Medal (equivalent to the Legion of Honor). He worked mainly on bronze statues and was appreciated for his style based on realism and elegantly assembling the whole with fluid lines.
