Series of six Directoire period (1795-1799) dining room chairs in the taste and lineage of G. Jacob, a quality and prolific French cabinetmaker. Innovative, this one is the initiator of a new style with perfect proportions. Inspired by Greco-Roman excavations and the emerging archeology of this period, these banded seats are called "klismoi" (Gr.). A representation of this type of seat - surprisingly modern - appears on the funerary stele of Xanthippe (430/29 BC), an Athenian metic of the classical period (5th-4th centuries BC). Our so-called "Etruscan" chairs are characterized by two front legs called "baluster" and two curved rear legs called "sabre". The green trim needs to be cleaned, or even replaced for a seat.
