"Giuseppe Scapinelli (1881-1982), Coffe Table In Inlaid Wood, Allegory To The Arts, 1950s"
Bean-shaped coffe table, inlaid top decorated with an allegory to the arts (painting, letters, etc.), attributed to the Brazilian designer G. Scapinelli. Giuseppe Scapinelli was born in 1891 in Modena, Italy, and like many of his fellow Italians, he crossed the ocean to immigrate to Brazil and start a new life. An accomplished painter, ceramicist and sculptor, he began his career as a furniture designer in the early 1950s. His style, influenced by his artistic background, earned him immediate recognition within the design community. Soft shapes and curved lines: his unexpected, original creations and a strong identity. A manufacturer and seller of his furniture, he quickly opened his own furniture factory where he produced many exceptional, impeccably crafted pieces for homes in São Paulo. Both sensual and daring, her work is infused with a timeless elegance twisted with a sensual and playful touch. Below the table, there remains part of the label from the Sao Paulo factory. Lyre-shaped blackened wooden foot. Very nice design. A glass top was added to protect the marquetry.
