Faenza, 17th C Majolica: Large Albarello From The Apothecary Of A Convent
Large Albarello from white earthenware, resting on a small round foot, cylindrical body tightened on centre. So-called naturalist calligraphic decoration of rolled parchment, surrounded by flowers in blue, Inscription in capitals manganese: SANDAL CITRONO, and polychrome figure of the Holy Bishop, with crosier, miter and religious writing, the Patron Saint of the Apothecary Hospice to which it belonged at period.
Bottega Vicchi. Faenza, 17th century. Good condition, a chip stuck to collar, (see red arrows, quite discreet), wear on lower edge.
Dimensions = 21cm and 13.2cm diameter. Weight: 0.8kg.
