"Pair Of "hourglass Model" Coffin Handles - Circa 1900 - Cast Iron - Curiosity"
Pretty pair of "Hourglass Model" coffin handles in cast iron with period metallic paint. Like a Memento mori, the hourglass represents the flight of time and life towards the inevitable end of death. The Winged Hourglass is a metaphor which means that the time of the deceased has stopped and is flying towards the Lord. Very early 20th century. Having never been used, they come from probable industrial stock. The handles articulate perfectly, this can allow them to hit a door, to be mounted on a piece of furniture, or simply as a collection to decorate a cabinet of curiosities. Slight spots of surface oxidation. (The price corresponds to the pair.)
