Ancient Kashan, 150 X 223 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool In Iran Under The Kadjar Dynasty In The 19th Century

Kashan carpet from the second part of the 19th century, in hand-knotted wool during the Kadjar dynasty, museum quality, measuring 150 cm wide by 223 cm long.
The central motif, a strong medallion decorated with interlacing, is adorned along the length of the field with two large pendants.
The field gives the impression of a niche, first photo, the two halberd-shaped pendants are complex and different, in shape and color.
Large stylized flowers in bloom, lotus flowers, peonies, palms, surrounded by other numerous flowers and interlacing cover the deep red field. We find this same type of flower and color in the corners and the spandrels but with greater density.
The border composed of varied motifs, also floral and palmette, is in unison with the whole.
This entire piece is in wonderful condition (even perfect), the velvet is clean, slight wear on the edges, which gives it a very special charm, it is above all a collector's rug.
The general condition is very good, there is no pile reduction, the very fine wool used is of first quality. Its thickness is three millimeters but this does not prevent it from having very high resistance.
The colors are fresh without loss of color and not exposed.
By paying attention, we can discern a large discreet niche standing out immediately, but we cannot designate this piece as a prayer rug, as the shape is discreet, it is above all in Persian art a decorative rug.
The very elaborate field may incline us to see an Ispahan or a Tabriz in this magnificent old carpet, but we are indeed in the presence of a Kashan.
This marvelous hand-knotted work has a density of knots per m2 of 640,000. Iranian traders give this type of Kashan the name "Motachem" after the name of a famous weaver. This type of piece can be found in many museums, such as the Tehran Carpet Museum.....
Kashan (Kachan, Keshan): large city in central Iran. During the Persian Renaissance, Kashan was the center of carpet production of legendary splendor. Finely woven carpets, of very rich composition, were knotted by the royal factory of Shah Abbas.
They have become the centerpieces of museums and private collections. Craftsmanship was interrupted in Kashan between the Afghan invasion (1722) and the end of the 19th century.
The revival of carpet production began with carpets which are distinguished by the superior quality of the wool giving an extremely velvety appearance. These examples are called Kashan Motashemi, named after the most famous master weaver of the late 19th century.
The settings are varied and meticulously crafted: hunting scenes, figured subjects inspired by Persian mythology, birds in a plant setting, trees of life. Thanks to the superior quality of the wool, their tight knotting, the beauty of their natural colors and their designs, the Kashan took their place among the best Persian rugs. This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
