"Regency Style Desk From Maison Hopilliart"
Regency style desk in black lacquered wood, opening with three belt drawers. The top decorated with old leather, red gilded with small iron, and in good state of conservation, it is set with a large ingot mold, finished in the corners with gilded bronze spandrels, hollowly marked "St Germain". It opens with a recessed central drawer flanked by two drawers, highlighted with mustache-shaped bronzes, the drawers are provided with large falling hands in gilded bronze. The feet are decorated with a faun head detail. The rear side simulated and composed of a decoration similar to the front side. The bronzes are very well made, bear the mark JHD on the reverse. It bears the stamp of the Hopilliart house on rue des Saint Pères, in Paris. The Maison Hopilliart, founded in 1781, continued its activity in the 19th century, at the beginning of the 20th century in 1900 it became the Maison Hopilliart et Leroy, and in 1931 became the Maison Hopilliart et Leroux, this allows us to date our Napoleon period office III, around 1880.
