Jean - Baptiste Vassou (1739 - 1807) Carpenter-cabinetmaker. Paris. Master on January 28, 1767. Vassou made himself known for a fairly abundant production of pretty furniture, almost all from the Transition period or the Louis XVI period. Jean-Baptiste Vassou began his career on rue Saint-Nicolas at the brand "La Tête Noire" and obtained his master's degree in 1767. His production was quite abundant. Almost all of his Transition style furniture is made of mahogany and often very high in proportion to their width. It only uses satin or rosewood veneers and its marquetry is light with large floral decorations. Neither bronze nor violet wood are present in his works. Overall, he left only cheerful and pleasant works, unlike many of his colleagues. In 1799, Jean-Baptiste Vassou transferred his workshop to rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine where his youngest son Jean-Louis succeeded him.
