"Virgin Of Pieta Or “pieta”. Polychrome Carved Wood."
Polychrome wooden sculpture representing the Virgin Mary, her son lying on her knees. The body of Christ forms a rounded shape, his head leaning to the side, his legs resting on the ground. He lets his hand hang in the folds of the virgin's skirt. This work is remarkable for its simplicity, its harmony and for the feelings expressed on the face of the virgin. Sculpture with very beautiful patina. Some missing parts due to wood-boring visible in the photos. Southern France (probably Languedoc). Popular art from the 16th century.
