Maurice Barbier-retore : “sunrise On The Lagoon In Venice”

Maurice Barbier-Retoré (19th-20th century): “Sunrise over the Lagoon in Venice”, oil on canvas 73.5 x 92.5 cm, mounted in a large channel frame (of course!) re-gilded and damaged 100 x 117 cm. Small restorations visible on the back, unsigned but annotated on the back, circa 1900/1910. Given its format, it cannot be sent by post, but only by carrier for around 300 euros for France. This beautiful impressionist artist is only known for his work, the Views of Ports of which show his appetite for atmospheric variations which he renders marvelously under skies that are sometimes gray, sometimes barely animated by clouds like here, chiseled by the rising sun .
