Sculpture in the modernist style of the 60s to 70s. Sculptor Aveyronnais, Villefranchois Fernand Brassac (1910-1990). After passing the higher elementary certificate, he began an apprenticeship at the Frayssinet house in Decazeville, specializing in cabinetmaking and commercial sculpture. He created his first sculptures intended for furniture ornamentation. Generally, the decorations are composed in an essentially floral and animal repertoire. He remained in the same sector until the age of 19, then went to Paris where he initially worked for an armchair manufacturer. At the same time, he devoted himself to his first paintings but decided, in 1936, to begin a world tour. In 1951, he set up his own sculpture workshop in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, rue Jean-Louis Alibert in 1951, then 3, rue du Général Prestat in 1953. Bas-reliefs constituted the bulk of his first production, while there are fewer people in the round. In April 1955, he exhibited in Rodez as part of the 2nd Labor exhibition. During the summer of 1955, he exhibited his works at the Municipal Urban Museum Cabrol in Villefranche-de-Rouergue. Initially, his inspiration was drawn from the animal world and scenes of rural life, then he turned to urban landscapes, such as Villefranche-de-Rouergue, which he completed with some views of neighboring villages, such as Toulonjac in 1958, Najac and Saint-Rémy in 1959. From 1960 to 1965, he adopted a new direction, and his work evolved towards production in bronze. Through lines and curves, he seeks to present the impression of movement in two dimensions. This happens through the accentuation of changes in lines: sudden rupture of the body by a flat intersection expressing invisible limbs. He develops the concept of line which is at the same time outline, suggestion and direction. He constantly seeks intensity of expression. It was in 1981 that Fernand Brassac offered the town halls of Villefranche-de-Rouergue and Decazeville (Aveyron) a copy of the Gallic Rooster in gilded bronze, executed using the sand casting technique. The imprints left in the sand are given by the wooden model made by the artist. The Gallic Rooster is the best-known and most characteristic sculpture of the artist who worked extensively on this symbolic theme.
