Alexandre François Bonnardel is a French painter, born in Pajay (Isère) on September 6, 1867 and died in Lyon (Rhône) on December 21, 1942. Alexandre François Bonnardel entered the National School of Fine Arts in Lyon on February 23, 1891 in the workshop of Antoine Christian Zacharie (1819-1899). He became a student of Jean-Baptiste Poncet and exhibited for the first time at the Salon des beaux-arts in Lyon where he obtained a first medal in 1899. In 1900, he was appointed professor of the living model class at the School national superior of fine arts of Lyon. He resigned in 1918 due to an affair with one of his students. With his wife Jeanne Bonnardel, also a painter, they live on rue Pierre Dupont in Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or1. He painted portraits and genre scenes, and produced engravings on the theme of Guignol, Gnafron and Madelon, as well as sets for the Guignol theater, representing squares in the city of Lyon, including one of the most famous, the Place of the Trinity.
