Ghoum rug, magnificent old Persian, measuring 137 cm wide by 197 cm long.
End of the Kadjar dynasty, Persia, Iran dated in Persian 1341 which corresponds to 1923 in a superb state of conservation for its velvet.
The date, a signature and a small text are inscribed in ivory wool, in Persian, in a cartridge with a red background, at the top of the carpet.
Surprising the change of wool and white silk in 3/4 of this piece. Born like this, this gives her a very special beauty.
The rug is knotted with beautiful, strong, shiny and clean materials.
The beginning of Ghom carpets was established in this city around 1920/1930 on the initiative and perseverance of the knotters and merchants of Kashan. The manufacture of these beautiful, very resistant carpets is certainly recent, but the skillful and precise knotters as well as the "Ostads" cartoon designers have imposed their know-how thanks to the perfection of their work and the breadth of the range of designs and colors.
Second holy city of Iran, 150 km from Tehran, Ghom is a major theological center.
The knot used is the Persian knot, tied very tightly. The decorations of plants, flowers, intertwined plants and animals, as well as the use of wool and silk are done regularly.
Our model presents an abundant medallion receiving other medallions, its field is covered with flowers and interlacing, the whole gives us the impression of a garden, flowerbeds and a central fountain.
In fact it symbolizes the divine sun, the two pendants symbolizing the moon and the earth. The border decorated with inclined palmettes on a pale blue background is of rare quality. Looking at the wool change, we are probably looking at the work of a small family workshop.
This carpet was certainly used as a wedding or birth gift, an important event in the life of the family or for small businesses.
