The portrait is named “Jean des Acres de L’Aicle Chev de Malte”.
We have found traces of this historical figure.
He is listed as one of the Knights of Malta.
Jean des Acres also distinguished himself during the siege of La Rochelle where he commanded one of the King’s ships.
The Acres family is a noble family of ancient Normandy extraction, on evidence of 1491. She received the titles of baron and marquis of the Eagle.
The knight is represented in armor, he wears the white sash, official mark of royal power in France. He also bears on his chest the cross of the Knights of the Order of Malta.
Of high quality, this oil on canvas is in very good condition, it has been rentoilée (some tiny scales are noteworthy).
