This porcelain figurine represents a Japanese Foo or Koma-inu dog (koma-lion, dog An animal which partly resembles a lion, for example with its luxuriant mane, but whose build and muzzle are closer to those of a lion a dog. Lions did not live in the territory of China and Japan, and artists knew these animals only through stories; this mixed dog-lion image became a permanent element of art.
