Object description :

"Reliquary Of The True Cross Dated 1630"
A little treasure, this two-sided crucifix reliquary in carved boxwood! It is dated 1630. This is a triply interesting piece: its known age, its recipient, Brother Cosme de Beauregard, and finally the great precision of the work carried out. On the first side, a brass frame is enriched with an IHS-engraved mother-of-pearl plaque inlay as well as two porcelain cameo medallions.
The ends of the Cross are decorated with brass plates, one representing the Crown of Thorns, the other engraved with a cross and two fleurs-de-lis. Beneath the Cross are relics of Saint Andrew. Inscription at the foot: "For the use of Brother Cosme de Beauregard, Capuchin..."
On the second side is a staurotheque relic, in a medallion, on which rests, under its original glass, a precious work with relics and representation of the Virgin and Child.
French work from the 17th century -
Height of 13.5 cm by 6 cm - Note accidents and wear.
