Object description :

"Reliquary Of Saint Ursula And The 11,000 Virgins - 18th Century"
The cult of Ursula and the Eleven Thousand Virgins enjoyed immense success in the Middle Ages, especially in Germany, the Netherlands, northern France and Italy.Ursula and her companions were canonized.
In a very beautiful gilded wooden frame, there is a luminous reliquary with a radiant statue of the Virgin and Child, topped with a cherub. At its feet is the main relic, to which this object of devotion is dedicated.
Our relic thus bears the mention of the 11,000 Virgins with the year 1781.
In the same logic, we discover on the lower part, three catacomb relics, which we imagine is one of the numerous Ursuline martyrs. In the four corners, on beautiful flowers in golden paper, rest relics of Saint Ursula which echo the main subject, as well as the relics of Saint Felicis, Saint Joseph and Saint Bonaventure.
As is often the case, 8 relics are offered. The eight having neither beginning nor end.

Dimensions with frame: 32 x 28 cm. Dimensions of the reliquary itself, approximately 18 x 23.
