18th Century, Italian Neoclassical Inlay Wood Centre Table
Measurements: cm W 56,5 x H 78 x D 46 (height of legs 63 cm)

This refined coffee table was made in Lombardia region (Italy) in the neoclassical period, towards the end of the eighteenth century.
The structure in walnut wood is veneered with rosewood and bois de rose and decorated with inlays in boxwood. The rectangular plan has three orders of frames delimited by reserves created by the wise use of different wood species. The central frame consists of a decoration with plant motifs. At the center of the top, inside a thin circular frame, there are two gods, created by wooden inlays. The sides of the coffee table, finished on all four sides, are inlaid with frames with foliated patterns, large vases of classic taste decorated with flowers and Greek sockets, from which depart two festoons joined by ribbons enclosing the center, on the longer sides, a circular shield with profile head. On the side there is a drawer with lock and key in bronze. The drawer is made of solid walnut, a detail that gives value as well as facilitating the cleaning of its interior. The uprights are decorated with inlays with classic natural elements. The four legs originate from a nut element decorated in the center by a flower and joined to the underside band by a wooden element moved and inlaid. The legs have an inverted pyramid trunk, inlaid with floral motifs, on all four sides.
This coffee table, very particular and difficult to find in the antique market for its small size, can be exposed in the center of environments, between two sofas or armchairs, placed in a corner or used as a small console in living rooms, entrances, corridors and rooms, pleasant both combined with antique and modern furnishings.
