Pair Of Solid Wood Tables With Veneered And Inlaid Top, Tuscany, Early 18th Century

Pair of solid wood tables with veneered and inlaid top, Tuscany, early 18th century
Item accompanied by a CITES certificate

This elegant pair of tables was made in Tuscany in the first decades of the 18th century. The rectangular tops are veneered and inlaid with thin ivory fillets forming an elaborate geometric pattern of concentric rectangles and elongated diamonds, with a very strong and decorative graphic effect. Each table rests on two sturdy lyre‑shaped supports in carved solid wood with an ebonized lacquer finish, With an almost bronze-like effect, characterized by flowing, graceful lines that recall the profile of the ancient musical instrument. The four feet end in inward‑turning scrolls that lighten the silhouette while ensuring excellent stability. The legs are connected to the top by mistilinear carved wooden “lightning bolt”, which serve a dual purpose: to stiffen the structure and to provide a refined decorative accent. These lightning bolts differ slightly from each other in the two tables. It is particularly remarkable that the tables have survived as a pair: they can be used together as consoles or individually as center tables. The ebonized lacquer finish, contrasted with the warm tone of the ivory inlay, gives the ensemble a charming antique presence, especially effective when combined with modern furnishings.
