Ferdinando Pogliano was the greatest Milanese cabinetmaker of his time. He specialized in ebony furniture inlaid with ivory. The use of semi-precious stones is typical of Milanese luxury furniture, the development of which was encouraged by the refurnishing of the palaces of this city in the second half of the 19th century.
