Corrèze by Maurice LÉVIS oil on cardboard signed lower left and located on the left format with the frame 19cm x 16cm.... Maurice Lévie known as Lévis, born November 11, 1860 in Paris, city where he died on January 31, 1941, is a French painter and watercolorist. Son of the painter Juliette Lévis[2], Maurice Lévis was born on November 11, 1860 in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. He was a student of the painters Henri Harpignies, Jules Lefebvre and Pierre Billet. He suffered through their through the influence of the Barbizon School, academic art and naturalism, then discovered the region of Pont-Aven[. He traveled to Africa and the Indian Ocean and painted works which placed him in the movement of orientalism. He was a member of the Society of French Artists from 1888, earning an honorable mention in 1895, a third class medal. in 1896 and a gold medal in 1927. Maurice Lévis painted scenes of life in the countryside, seaside and travel during his travels in Africa and the Indian Ocean. He died on January 31, 1941 in his domiciled at no. 11 boulevard de Clichy in the 9th arrondissement, and was buried in the Montmartre cemetery (23rd division
