Oil On Canvas, Bouquet Of Flowers By Charles Auguste Edelmann
Artist: Charles Auguste Edelmann
EDELMANN Charles Auguste Born August 16, 1879 in Soultz-sous-Forêt, near Wissembourg (Haut-Rhin). Died in 1950 in Paris
Twentieth century. French.
Painter of animated compositions, genre scenes, nudes, landscapes, still lifes, watercolorist, draftsman, illustrator.
He was a student of JL Gérôme and Ferdinand Humbert at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member, as well as at the Union of Alsatian Artists. Personally he exhibited in Strasbourg and Mulhouse.
Painter of various subjects, he often painted street scenes. His landscapes are later: Alsace, Brittany on Bréat Island, Landes and Corrèze, the countryside near Paris and Isle-d'Adam.
Then, he painted intimate interiors where he liked to represent the nude. He illustrated numerous literary works. This artist reveals a great sense of accurate and rapid sketching: he easily translates the gesture, the attitude, the anecdotal detail which defines a character. LIBRARY: Gérald Schurr, in The Little Masters of Painting 1820-1920, value of tomorrow, Les Editions de l'Amateur, t. VII, Paris, 1989
