"Marine Boats Run Aground"
Ugo Manaresi (1851-1917) Long-distance captain, Ugo Manaresi was always inspired by the sea, painting boats, sailboats and marines in calm weather or during storms. Student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and at the Naval Academy in Livorno, he was influenced by the "macchiaioli" and created works with intense colors. This work is characteristic of Manaresi in his study of light and color. He painted the ancient fishing village of Marina del Campo, on the island of Elba, with its small port and picturesque colorful houses, dominated by the Pisan tower built in the 12th century. Through the material which becomes more or less dense, Ugo Manaresi distinguishes the various surfaces in a play of shadow and light. He places a golden light on the surface of the water while the details, rendered by rapid touches colored as for the stranded sailboats and the characters in the foreground, offer the viewer a snapshot rich in poetry. sign, date 1876 and located Isola d'Elba at the bottom right.
