Object description :

"Half-moon Chest Of Drawers Stamped By Fidelys Schey"
Half-moon chest of drawers, in rosewood marquetry in amaranth frames highlighted by light wood fillets.

The fluted uprights simulated in slight projections rest on tapered feet decorated with rings and sabots. It opens with 3 drawers on the front; the bottom drawers without crossbars are topped by a narrower drawer. Two side doors open onto two shelves on each side.

It is topped with gray marble from the quarries of Sainte Anne, with grooves and projections which follow the lines of the chest of drawers.

Parisian work from the last quarter of the 18th century (between 1777 and 1788), stamped by Fidelys SCHEY, under the lower crosspiece of the right door.

Length: 131 cm.
Depth: 56 cm.
Height: 88 cm.

Fidelys Schey was made master on February 5, 1777. Born in the Duchy of Baden, this prolific cabinetmaker, despite the relative brevity of his career (he died on July 28, 1788), established himself on rue de Faubourg Saint-Antoine and opened, near from his workshop, a sales store that he entrusts to his wife. Its production includes Transition furniture and especially Louis XVI. We know that in 1786 he supplied gaming tables for the Château de Fontainebleau.
