Set Of 3 Mahdist Daggers From Sudan flag

Object description :

"Set Of 3 Mahdist Daggers From Sudan"
This set of 3 daggers is typical of Sudan. It dates from the time of the Mahdist rebellion, in the last quarter of the 19th century.
It consists of 3 daggers = 2 curved khandjars and a straight double-edged dagger, in a unique crocodile skin sheath.
The BLADES: They are all double-edged, and are entirely covered with religious inscriptions engraved by acid, in characters called "Thuluth". On only one of the 3 blades, the inscriptions at the last quarter of the blade are erased by oxidation and wear.
The HILTS: They are made of bone, in a so-called "coil" shape, and end with a small flat pommel in goat's horn.
SHEATH: it is as described in crocodile skin for the central part and the two side sheaths. The small central sheath, although appearing to be crocodile, is perhaps made of another leather (?).
The entrances to the sheaths are decorated with a small golden frieze.

This unusual set is interesting for the material of the scabbard, for the historical aspect, and for its very decorative and exotic side. It will naturally find a deserved place in a gentleman's "cabinet of curiosities"
