Object description :

"Denis Pierre Bergeret (1846-1910) ''kitchen Scene''"
While he was still a teenager, Pierre Denis Bergeret, son of a winemaker from Villeparisis, “went to Paris” to study painting. He was a student of Eugène Isabey (1803-1886), Jules Lefebvre (1834-1912) and Léon Bonnat (1833-1922).

The thrilling world of kitchens is one of this painter's favorite subjects. This realistic scene reveals the appearance of a kitchen in the 19th century. Utensils are placed within easy reach, pots and pans are hung on the wall, pots and dishes are on shelves, knives are ready to be picked up and the furniture consists of a simple work table.

Bergeret is a painter of still lifes linked to the culinary world: shellfish, shrimp, fruits and vegetables, kitchen scenes have inspired this artist throughout his career. A recognized painter, he received several distinctions between 1875 and 1900 and was decorated with the Legion of Honor.

Of these paintings, today scattered in numerous museums in France and abroad, we will remember: When you have finished! (Remiremont museum) which recreates in chiaroscuro the feverish industry of a large restaurant kitchen.
