Raoul Van Maldere (1875-1947) Trees In Flowers By The Pond
Artist: Raoul Van Maldère (1875-1947)
Always as surprising and avant-garde for an artist from the Ecole Marseillaise Classique, Raoul Van Maldère paints here with broad strokes of the spatula and playing with shapes and colors an oil on canvas of rare intensity and modernism in Provence at that time. The work, in perfect condition, is dated 1920 at the bottom left, it is signed at the bottom right. It is offered in a modern black frame mounted on plexiglass which suits it very well and which measures 66 cm by 81 cm, 46 cm by 61 cm for the painting alone.
It represents a spring landscape with flowering trees at the edge of a body of water.
A colorful, decorative and modern work for lovers of unusual paintings.
First self-taught then student of Joseph Colla, he was encouraged and regularly exhibited by the Marseille gallery owner Jules Olive (1910, 1913, 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1925). In 1925, he tried his luck in Paris and debuted at the Salon des Indépendants with "le Four" and two watercolors representing landscapes of Provence. From 1913, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. Finally, he attended the Salon des Artistes Français from 1924 to 1939: "Vieux Mas, Provence et Etang de Berre (1926), Maison en Provence et Mas provençal (1927), Coup de mer, Provence (1936)". He is also the author of highly prized female portraits.
